My name is Oliver Farshi. You can call me Olly. I am Design Director of Outside, a humanitarian design studio. I design things that promote peace, health, and well-being.

I love making things: useful things for people with disabilities, fund-raising things for non-profits, creative things for civic organisations, thoughtful things for museums. Previously I was a design lead at Google Life Sciences and Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, and in the past I made things for Lego, Nokia, HP, Marvel Comics, and many others.

I have collaborated with various NGOs and nonprofit organisations including IRC, UNICEF, UNHCR, Mercy Corps, and War Child. I lead design for the opensource humanitarian tool Translation Cards: an app that enables field workers and refugees to communicate more effectively. The app is used across the world by first responders and received an award for innovation at the inaugural United Nations World Humanitarian Summit.

A regular speaker and workshop leader at SXSW, I am a member of the advisory board of SXSW Eco, and a Practitioner-in-Residence at Berkeley, University of California. I regularly give public talks and workshops about humanitarian design and the role of design in increasing well-being. You may also have caught me on the BBC, The New York Times, or CNN.
